- CA 1989 s. 43 Child assessment orders Local authorities can seek a child assessment order under CA 1989 s. 43 for up to 7 days when significant harm is suspected and assessment is refused.
- CA 1989 s. 44A Exclusion orders in emergency protection Courts making an emergency protection order can exclude a person from the child's home. The requirement ends if the child is removed for more than 24 hours.
- CA 1989 s. 44B Undertakings in emergency protection orders Courts can accept an undertaking instead of an exclusion requirement in an EPO. No power of arrest attaches, and it ends if child is moved for over 24 hours.
- CA 1989 s. 45 Emergency protection orders: duration CA 1989 s.45 EPO lasts max 8 days, extendable once by up to 7 days if significant harm risk. No appeal against making/extension/discharge except in limited cases.
- CA 1989 s. 46 Police emergency removal of children – CA 1989 s.46 Police can remove a child at risk of significant harm. Notify local authority and parents. Max 72 hours. Officer may apply for emergency protection order.
- CA 1989 s. 47 Duty to make enquiries on reasonable cause CA 1989 s. 47: local authority must make enquiries on reasonable cause to suspect a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm.
- CA 1989 s. 48 Powers to assist in discovery of children Court's powers to require disclosure of child's whereabouts, authorize entry/search, and issue warrants for police assistance in emergency protection.
- CA 1989 s. 49 Abducting a child in care Taking or keeping a child under care, EPO, or police protection carries up to six months imprisonment, a level 5 fine, or both under CA 1989 s. 49.
- CA 1989 s. 50 Recovery of abducted children etc. Recovery order under CA 1989 s. 50 for a child unlawfully taken, kept away, run away, or missing. Applies to children in care or emergency protection.
